Black Ops, first game

For a review in Wargames Soldier and Strategy issu 80 I got me a pre-release copy of the upcomming Black Ops wargaming rules writen by Guy Bowers and published by Osprey Wargames 10, due to publication 20 October 2015.

As I didn´t have the appropriate minis and also had to entertain (read lure in to the historical wargaming) my 6-year old son we used his Lego Star wars minis for a first test game:)

The rules are really easy to get hold of so you can use your brain to try to solve your mission, my Son got the basics really fast and I only keept track of the modifications. The rules are card-driven, but we didn´t find a ordinary deck of cards at home so we used a UNO card deck for activation wich worked fine.

Can´t tell you much more at the moment regarding the rules, but please reade my review in WSS 80 when published in September...Here are some pictures from our game....In a galaxy far far away...

To the left, starting of board, Luke Skywalker and 4 Elite rebell troopers. They had to escort C3PO and R2-D2 to saftey on the othere side of the gaming board.

In there way was the Bounty hunter Boba Fett and 9 regular Stormtroopers to aid im in his hunt for the 2 wanted droids.

I comanded Luke and the Rebells and my Son comanded Boba Fett and the Imperial...

The Rebell troopers rushes forward and open fire at 2 Imperial froopers...

While Luke are out sneaking around in the back...

The fire from the 4 Rebell troopers was to intence for the poor Imperials that fall to the ground...stunned ofcourse...

Even sneaking Luke run in to a group of Imperial Stormtroopers with Boba Fett close by...

Boba Fett knows he wont win fighting Luke so he leaves that to the Stormtroopers and take a fly up on a high possition to look for the two wanted droids...

At fist he just see the firefight between the Rebell troopers and the Stormtroopers

C3PO and R2-D2 are slowley moving for saftey...

At least C3PO get a bit upset when he sees that Luke might have a bit of a problem defeating the 3 Stormtroopers even using his Lightsaber...

...butC3PO get even more upset when Boba Fett land just in front of them opening fire...

...but misses...

...in the meantime the Rebell troopers have a intense firefight with the Stormtroopers that seems to have a endless supply of troops to throw in to the combat...

...Rebell troopers falls all over the place...stunned ofcourse...

As the Stormtroopers now have defeated the Rebell troppers they can start to chase after the 2 droisd that are trying to get away from Boba Fett...

My son really enjoied this new way of playing with his Star Wars LEGO.

Luke had after a close fight managed to defeat the 3 Stormtroopers and run to aid the droids in there escape...but Boba Fett are in the way...

...but not for long as Luke get a shoot in with his tiny blaster... the escape rout are cleared...

...but not really as a big bunch of Stormtroopers comes heading in there direction...

...as the hero Luke are he place him self in the line of fire, waving his lightsaber to scare the Stormtroopers off...

...and apperently it works, at lest it gives the 2 droids the time they need to escape of the board...

...end of Episode Vb...

We both had a really good game and was both pleased that the droids managed to escape, my son asked for one more game and that is the best of Review a game can get:) But I still hope you read my Review to in September, but nothing about this LEGO game in that...

I hope you all will have a really nice weekend !  I know I will and also enjoy my vaccation:)

  1. Gives a good idea of numbers involved and you might start a new trend using them with Lego minifigures!

  4. We played the game at Salute and sadly the rules didn't grab us at all. I know they were simplified for the show, but still we didn't feel any love for them. We recently played Skirmish Sangin which in contrast we found grabbed us straight away.

Enjoy your holiday and I intend to enjoy mine with the family over the next two weeks:)

  6. Excellent AAR, and very clever recruitment process. I will try the same with my daughter's My Little Pony collection :0)

  14. Superb! I recently introduced my son to gaming via IHMN and he's taken to it like a duck to water, beating me regularly (we'll be having our first go at Dark Ages Lion Rampant this coming weekend!)...so I'm always interested in relatively simple rules I can play with him and this sounds great!
