Battle of Chippawa July 5, 1814

Our friend Jesper had arranged a Battle of Chippawa July 5, 1814 game for me, Jonas and Sören during the week, using the Black Powder rules.

The table we used was 120x240cm and all minis was from Jespers collection. The scenario was from the Niagara 1814 campaign book by Tim King, you can down load it here, I´m not sure if Jesper used it as it is or if he tweeked it for our game, anyway we had a really good game:)

I will not give you a full AAR, just some pictures from the game.

British militia and allied injuns

Forming up...

American regulars...

British left flank...

Thin red line in the center...

Americans was on the offensive...

The British hold their fire to the last...

The British left flank move in for a kill with cavalry support...

Close combat...

The Americans fought well...

British left flank wasn´t as good as they thought both the Infantry and Cavalry routed...

British artillery lost...

The American regulars was the best for the day and just after this picture was taken the whole British line disintegrated and the Americans i.e. Sören won the day...

FUBA - Tactical Football Game

No I don´t change the focus of my blog, but I stumbeled over a game I thought I had to share with you. Even if i´m not a football fan I do enjoy a good and interesting game even one that simulate football ;)

So I will try to tell you about FUBA that is a tactical football simulation board game for 2 players. In the game you act as the head coach and choose the strategy for your team as well as trying to do the best of that strategy on the football field.

When you have learned the rules, that might feel a little bit cumbersome for people that are not used to read wargaming rules, you will have a smart, fast-paced game that takes on the world’s number one sport from a tactical view.

As I´m not realy in to football I more see the players as my troops that are attacking/defending on the right, center och left flank, making force accumulation on one flank to be able to puch forward and score victory...goal... and I doo indeed find it very entertaining :)

The game is resolved quicker than a real match, in less than an hour. FUBA is played in turns, with an average of 23 turns per each half. The player controlling the ball chooses the action his team will go for, and then both players roll the dice to see the outcome. After this, both players move their team according to the tactics they have chosen. There is always a small chance of random events such as a yellow or red card. If you want to go deeper in to the rules you can download them here in English, Finnish, German or Italian.

The game are packaged in a tube, rather inovative and very good to keep the 40x60cm flexible rubber board football field in shape. All the game tookens (20+2 players and 3 referees) are in wood and there are also 3 dice (2 ordinary dice and one ball dice), 16 tactic cards, one red card and a english rulebook included in the game.

The price for the game are €37 + postage, might feel like a bit high at first but considering the quality of the compnents and that the game, that are a labour of love from some fellow wargamers in Finland, are only printed in 500 copys I think it is very well worth the cash.

If you decid to get a copy of FUBA be sure to consider to sign up for the FUBA World Cup 2014 in Helsinki Olympic Stadium in Finland 7-8 June !

You can order your own copy of FUBA and also find more info about FUBA and the FUBA World Cup at U&P Games site.

A Very Moderate Swedish Conflict AAR #12

One more "a Very Moderate Swedish Conflict" AAR...or should I say almost an AAR as we didn´t have the time to finish the battle, talking to much:)

This time I and Björn from Ådalen Miniatures had set up a small game to test out he´s new addition to the Ådalen Miniature range.

We used the Donnybrook rules with som small addaption to get them working in out interwar setting. And run the Rearguard scenario.

White Forces (Attackers)

1xHero, Captain Stålhandske
1xTank m/21 with 2 crew and a character Sergeant Panzar
3x10 Drilled Infantry each group with an additional Automatic Rifle (BAR)
1xOfficer, Character, Second Lieutenant Stål
1x HMG with 3 crew
1 Light Mortar with 3 crew and a character Sergeant Knall
1 Bicycle scout that may act as a FO for the mortar. Character, Corporal Snabb

8 Action cards

Red Forces (Defenders)
1xHero, 1st Supervisor Göransson with a Shotgun
2x8 Drilled Miners 1st group had a LMG and second group a Heavy Flamer.
1xAPC, 2 crew and a Anti-Tank rifle, transport to 2:nd miner group.
1x HMG 3 crew and a character 3rd Supervisor Sprängare
3x Elit Miners with lots of explosives and a bad attitude.

4 Action cards

Advancing tank with infantry support from the 2:nd squad.

Corporal Snabb used his terrain going bicycle to ride up on a small hill with a good wiew of the surounding area, a perceft place for some Fika and FO duty...

The white troops advance on their left flank, 1st squad aiming for the barn and  the Support squad deploing their light mortar in cover of the hill.

As the white approached along the road the Miners HMG opened fire from their possition by the crossroad.

3rd squad advanced through the forest to seize the filling station....

The tank gave some protection but the 2nd squad took the first casualty´s from the HMG fire, 2 men down...

The Miners 1st squad along with Supervisor Göransson advanced svift to the barn and found good firing positions...

Especially as the Whites 1st squad tried to advance in the open forward the barn, not even in the cover of the pigies the Miners could miss...

General white adbvance...

Red reinforcement in arrive by APC, the 2nd squad embarke and starts to advance to meet the white´s with coold steel and a heavy flamer...

The slowly approacing tank opened fire...it was devastating for the Red´s as the whole HMG section was obliterated... Supervisor Sprängare managed to escape the shower of bullets with just a scratch...

As the whites 3rd section capture the filling station, their 1st section dosn´t have the same luck as they and the pigs start to squall as the Miners in the barn open fire...you should never advance in the open...

The remaining men of the whites 1st section manage to take cover in a small forest, as the white deploys their HMG on the hill...

The Miners APC open fire at the Tank with their AT rifle...

...all to no vain...

Solid advance by the whites drilled troops.

In a desperate attempt to deal with the tank the Miners send their heavy flamer forward...

End possitions of our game...

Indeed a very enjoyable game, the Donnybrook rules work very fine and give good and interesting games.

Kärrebössa

I have painted one more medieval artillery piece for my Kalmar Union War project.

The miniature are a Perry one form their WotR range.

The first account of mobile artillery in Sweden was during the Puke rebellion in 1436 the Swedish Marsk Karl Knutsson, House of Bonde are told to have had a couple of "Kärrebössor" (cartgun) with them to use against the rebells.

Later in his career, now King, Karl Knutsson, House of Bonde in 1452 invaded Scania during a war with Denmark, according to the Karl´s Chronicles the Swedish army brought 20 "Kärrebössor" (cartgun) with them, and an army of 100 000 men...that part might be a bit exaggerated 10 000 might be mor in line with the truth...but the winner dictates the history expecially as the Karl´s Chronicles was written by order of the King himself...

In 1464 the Danes was besten by the Swedish rebells under command of the Linköping Bishop Kettil Karlsson, House of Vasa at the battle at Haraker. It is told that the Swedish rebells used artillery to defeat the Danes and at least one cannon ball have been found in the area of the battle.
