Last weekend I and my 2 children was to the Stockholm Medieval Museum. On our way we watched the Royal Life Guard on theirs way to the Royal Palace for the change of the guards.

About 20 years agoe I did my military service at the Royal Life Guard and did ride to the Royal Palace dress in these uniforms...

Pictures from the Medieval Museum by the end of the week...

First you have the Royal Dragoon Trumpet Corps...

And then the Royal Life Guard...

In the background you can see the Royal Opera.

  2. Thanks for posting the army list...
can I ask about the long spears? I have the Osprey warrior on Landsknects here. I am looking at the Paul Dolstein pictures esp the one of the battle near Elfsborg 1502. It shows landsknechts fighting Swedes from vastergotland. I can't quite make out the small drawing but it seems crossbows and halberbs...
I would be intersted on what you think of how it depicts the swedes weapon wise. I'm new to Impeus and can one have a unit with crossbow and long spears? Please don't take my comments as criticism but rather my attempt to learn even more from you!
    cheers

  3. military service in the Guards? So, does this mean anyone can enter the Guards for a brief period?

In France, the Republican guards are an elite unit, with picked men.

Anyway, interesting view. I' m beginning to like Swede more and more

  4. Hi Alan

Nice to heare that someone uses Swedish minis

I´m not sure if the BI rules would let a unit to have both x-boe and long spears. But to be able to field Swedish allmoge units in a fair way in the later stages of the Kalmar union war I suppouse that you have to let them have both Crossbows and long spears.

According to several Swedish historians did the allmoge fight in mixed formation with both clos combat weapons and bow/crossbows. According to the landslaw the allmoge was supposed to have armour (helmet and plata/breast plate) and to be armed with both close combat weapond (ax, or sword and a spear etc) and Bow/Crossbow…we could be sure that not all managed that and I suppouse that it is rather difficult to both shot and handle a bill or spear at the same time…

To be able to fight the mounted Nobles and pike armed landsknechts in open terrain the Allmoge needed to use longer spears, like the “Sword spears” in the Dolstein pictures, but they newer started to use pikes as they are impractical in the Swedish forest terrain, the best friend for the Swedish allmoge

  5. Hi Sebastosfig

Untill about a year ago the Swedish army was made up of full time Officers and conscrips that serves for 7-15 month. I did my 10 month as a Military Police at a Regiment called the Royal Life Guard Dragoons, and one part of our service was to Ride Horse to the Royal Palace and guard it in old style uniforms:)

Please let me know if you coming to Sweden for a wisit;)

    Best regards Dalauppror
